93 Points

COLOR: Opaque black-purple with garnet-purple rim that has a little haze
NOTE: Drank next to the 2005 Saxum Booker and this came in a shade behind. The nose seems very Grenache-driven (though only 5% of the blend), almost brambly, with loads of sweet, ripe blackberry and mulberry compote, then a little raspberry jam and some garrigue along with a whiff of heat. The mouth is very rich and hedonistic, displaying more beautiful blackberry liqueur, black pepper, meat juices (13% Mourvedre). Within the first hour the tannins still clamp down a lot, but this really does soften after about 8 hours and becomes a beautiful melange of black fruit syrup and 60% dark chocolate bar, a bit of tar and tobacco in the afterglow. It's missing that glycerin I crave so it's not a 98/99 pointer for me, but I can see how it could get to 95 in a couple of years. Give this some time.
