Sunday, May 31, 2015 - Color: very dark ruby -> deep ruby rim. Decanted 2+ hours. Boysenberries and raspberries on the nose along with a little oak and smoke; fruit is ultimately ascendant here and I didn't find this to have a terribly complex bouquet. Thickly extracted palate; overly plump berry fruit. While this demonstrates good intensity, acidity and a lengthy finish, I'm not finding this to be 'all that and a bag of chips'. It's nicely quaffable but I was hoping (expecting) a bit more when finally opening my first '07 Saxum. Granted, it is regarded on CT as being the least hallowed of the Saxum offerings in this heralded year. Still, I think I'd be hard pressed to even identify Syrah as the primary grape here if this was being tasted blind . . . .
