91 Points

Sunday, November 7, 2010 - Glistening crimson in the glass, red fruit in the nose. This wine has evolved remarkably in the five months since I last tried a bottle and is now approaching the score accorded it by WS: lovely weight, nice balance of fruit and acidity, the natural tartness of the sangiovese grape softened and rounded by the cabernet sauvignon. Very popular at the table with six on the bottle, sipping slowly with lamb stew. Day two: very little on the nose, a little sweeter than yesterday and a little dustier as well, in that the tannins are more assertive. It tastes as though the sangiovese, at 70%, is becoming more dominant and the Cabernet sauvignon is receding beyond what one might expect from its 30% share. I'm having this glass a couple of hours post-pizza, and will say that this wine absolutely needs to accompany a meal, at least at this stage. Will the bottles improve with more time? I'm sceptical....
