Sunday, May 30, 2021 - Roumier Ruchottes Chambertin 1998 (Bonnefond labelled). Friends tell me the Bonnefond bottles used to be quite a bit cheaper than the Roumier ones, but I bought half a case ex Domaine last year and the price was almost the same as the Roumier labelled one would have been. I believe it is exactly the same wine but experts in this group may correct me.

This bottle drinks fantastically well. Opens immediately with a floral, seductive nose. A mix of white flowers, violets and tea & red roses. Very Chambolle in expression. Elegant. A tiny bit of unresolved CO2 - that my wife didn’t observe. Over time, the wine becomes a little more Gevrey in style. A little more animale, meaty.

A good wine to consider the impact of the wine maker on the wine. Is this bottle so Chambolle-esque because of Roumiers technique, because of the Chambolle yeasts, or because of our association with Roumier?

A great bottle irrespective of the answer.
