Saturday, October 3, 2015 - No longer is this a blueberry milkshake. In fact, far from it. It opens with reductive, band aid notes. Eventually, but somewhat slowing, those elements clear out. The bouquet is full of blackberry, brown sugar and cream. The nose is more like a youthful California Syrah. The fruit is still present and at the forefront, but it no long whacks away at the palate. The former heavy handed dose of vanilla has given way to some subtlety. Sure, some blueberry still appears on the attack and mid-palate, but by the finish, the wine waves in flavors of coffee and pepper. What an improvement this wine has made. 14.5% alc. With stinky cheese and blue cheese (Bayley Hazen), ham, salumi and crusty bread. Recommended.
