Sunday, January 10, 2016 - What surprised me about this wine was that, consistently over the course of the evening, I felt the taste was better than the nose. That is a relative rarity among older wines. Starts off with a very promising color, very little fading so far, medium purple. Nose is really "subtle" (let's say), with just some floral notes, very little oak present that you'd expect in a Caymus. On the palate, the wine was much more complex, nice sweet tannin, a little leathery-spice element to it that kept it interesting. Some others have recommended decanting this bottle; I wouldn't do so, I drank the last glass 3 hours after opening (non-decanted) and it had faded quite a bit. Still a reliable bottle and producer, though I was a touch disappointed by the relative lack of complexity.
