Saturday, February 1, 2014 - We did not expect it, and were not all that pleased when we discovered it, but this bottle showed as much an obvious case of reduction as any bottle I have ever tasted. We know the provenance of this bottle, and don't suspect any handling or storage issues. With a decant, through the vinturi, from front to back there was what I call a rubbery, banana leaf meets mushroom earth nose and palate. Aside from the reduction, this is the world class awesome wine you would expect from this pedigreed producer. The color is black ink. There is character and structure any wine would be proud to exhibit. Just coming into it's stride, the fruit is showing both some youth and maturity. Mostly dark cherry and blackberry. Big oak works and contributes. Full bodied. Flavor nuances that a blend shows better than the individual varietals could ever accomplish on their own. We kept drinking and enjoying for the awesome characteristics that overcame most of the flaw.
