Saturday, March 20, 2010 - Color: Garnet with a ruby rim and a faint rusted orange tip at the meniscus

Smell: Scents of earth, forest floor, mushrooms, alcohol, and red fruits.

Taste: Cherry, strawberry, alcohol, and red licorice candy with a hint of spice at the end.

Overall: The heat is dominant on both the nose and the palate after being opened for less than 30 minutes. The wine softened a little with a little over an hour in the decanter. However, this is my least favorite bottle of wine from Mike Etzel to date. I don't see this improving with time sideways with the alcohol so dominant on both the nose and palate. I would think about consuming this sooner rather than later....
