Saturday, September 11, 2021 - The 1949 Lynch Bages was not a universal favorite around the table, but it was certainly a favorite of mine. Its sapid, wild, ripe red fruit and eucalyptus notes offered reminders of why Lynch-Bages bore the moniker of the “poor man’s Mouton” through much of the 20th century (though nowadays a poor man can’t get anywhere near Lynch Bages, but that is another story). I very much admire the persistence of the ripe, healthy fruit here, allied with grilled nuts, sous bois, and the aforementioned eucalyptus and would happily drink a bottle of this again.
