Sunday, December 3, 2017 - Vinetasters: Brown Bag (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. Clear botrytis on the nose, and that's especially true given the colour. A bit of peaches on the palate, as well as some rich spice. Touch of caramel on the nose as well. The palate doesn't seem to show too much acidity or brightness. Not much varietal character; which makes me think this is pinot gris. Clearly sweet enough to be the VT level. The other hint that this is Alsatian is that slightly lifted, almond, aldehydic, and bitter finish. I guessed Zind-Humbrecht from the late 1990s.
