Monday, December 24, 2012 - Cellared since release. Popped and poured; perfect cork barely wetted above the bottom. Deep red with no signs of bricking. Seems to be a bit of volatile acidity in the nose initially; very high toned - will have to see if this passes. On the palate - this is quite thick but with drying tannins on the finish - will decant and see if that helps.
After 30 minutes in the decanter the nose has cleaned up and the wine seems sound; still quite thick and tannic on the finish, though.
Decided to double-decant and wait til tomorrow – now nose has cleaned up and the wine has some nice chocolate notes on the palate but still a boatload of drying tannins on the finish. If this wine was 5 years old or Old World, I would say it just needs time but at 15 for a California Cab?! Flawed.
