Friday, March 14, 2014 - Still good ruby color with no fading. Really expressive nose of blackberries, licorice, menthol and spices. I'm not a fan of the way many '97 Napa Cabs have aged but this is one that has aged beautifully. Still full-bodied and satiny with wonderful flavors of boysenberry, licorice, black currants and a slight hint of green beans in a good way. The finish is where this wine rises above showing a fantastic complexity with strong notes of spicebox, eucalyptus and minerals. Perhaps it's the Cab Franc in this wine that makes it work so well but it avoids all the pitfalls of overdone Napa Cabs. Really delicious and eye-opening.
