90 Points

Friday, August 26, 2022 - Popped and poured; left some of the wine in the bottle, refrigerated, and finished the following day. This is a solid ruby wine. There is a bit of tongue-staining particulate matter in the wine, but only a light sediment at the end of the bottle. On the nose, I get plum sauce, cherries, smoke, and fig. The mouth is very full, displaying frankly sweet red fruits combined with some pure 100% cacao chocolate. The finish is chewy, although some heat and raisin elements creep in. Overall, this is a heady wine that is perhaps a tad too much. I suspect this is past peak and among the “burning the candle at both ends” class of 2007 CdPs (but certainly not the worst example of that I’ve had). I found this to be much more enjoyable with a chill on it, which held back some of the excesses of heat, stewed fruit, etc. I don’t see a lot of upside and suspect the unfavorable aspects of this wine will only get further amplified with time. It’s a fading rockstar, so enjoy it while there’s still some vitality left. 90 points.
