Wednesday, July 6, 2011 - Pop n pour. Perhaps this is what is wrong with wine journalism and winemaking today. It's been a while since my last BR experience but it would seem that little has changed. I find the BR wines to be the definition of hype/name/style at a ridiculous price with little if any sense of place and/or varietal. That may seem harsh to some, and it may not be perfectly fair to single out this wine, but you've to start somewhere. This wine typically retails for ~ $58, I purchased it for $35. Notwithstanding my purchase price, I feel slighted and poorer for the experience. Sure, it's juicy, plump, round and without any hard edges in sight, but with that comes, well, nothing. Easy drinking fermented grape juice, it's what the masses demand and it's what this wine delivers in spades. If this is your style, do yourself a favor and buy any one of a few hundred others that are within a hair's breadth of this, and likely under $15. The only saving grace is some balancing acidity and a conspicuous absence of (excessive) oak. Being a second wine doesn't automatically grant a license for mediocrity. I'm really hoping this was an off bottle. C/C+, drink now, 14,5% abv
