92 Points

Saturday, April 7, 2012 - I was really looking forward to this and, quite frankly was a tad disappointed (I was praying for a 93+/94 point wine). Though very very good, I think the '97 vintage hurt this. It's lacking the depth and explosiveness of fruit I was hoping for with this producer. However this was still delicious and worth a shot if you can get it at $50. Notes: cloudy, showing its age, but still very fresh and vibrant. Licorice, red fruits, tobacco, fresh leather (think of old refurbished shoes) on the nose and palate...almost like a mature burgundy! Tannins have melted away and this is at its peak. As it spends time in the glass it become more savory and makes me want to eat food. The finish adds at least 1-2 points...so, so long. I started at 90 and this got better with time, so moving to 91+/92. Worth a try... I want to try the 1998.
