Saturday, December 11, 2021 - Alex's 40th Birthday (Alex and Fiona's in AMK): 21 years young - this was quietly impressive, but still many, many years from peak. The nose was a slightly richer drift on Tempranillo, with red cherries and darker wild berries laced with a puff of cigarette smoke and a little shades of dill. Nice. The palate was a little behind the curve, but very impressive, with flavours of dark cherries and sour plums had weight, suppleness and transperancy in good measure. This felt still quite primary, but really complete. It had a lovely full midpalate and a great finish too, pulling away into the back palate with mouth filling notes of sour cherries, plums and a little shadow of smoke and spice. Very impressive, great with a suckling pig, but with its best years easily a decade or more ahead of it yet.
