Wednesday, August 25, 2010 - Petite Sirah is often a little rough around the edges and generally deserves its reputation as a less-than-refined grape variety. However, Vincent Arroyo's Petite Sirahs are absolutely stunning. Still very young, this wine nevertheless drinks very well already (though it will benefit a lot from further cellaring), a wonderful, dark elixir with well-integrated tannins, a bit too much oak on the nose at first but this balances out after an hour. Very good value for money at around US$30. Arroyo's various single vineyard Petite Sirahs are even better and good value for what you get. I'd also recommend you vist the winery, a beautiful and unpretentious little place which provides a very welcome change from the usual over-commercialised wineries in Napa Valley.
