95 Points

Sunday, December 13, 2009 - Quite explosive whiff of dried and crushed cherries. Very flowery and perfumed with hints of an autumn beach, sea grass, wood and salt-wet pebbles. The smell is truly kaleidoscopic. Taste is a little subdued but also brilliantly complex and layered. Quite astringent at the moment with a bitter tang like chewing on fresh rosemary. I find tannins and a mineral chalkiness to be hard to separate atm. Very long. This is a light Ducs in shear mass but in my eyes unusually gifted and can't be beaten in loveliness. I love the 2007 Volnays and this may not be among the most open I've drunk but it's a complete wine for me.
