Saturday, September 20, 2008 - Almost black in color, this highly extracted wine is an opaque deep black-purple color with no signs of bricking at 18 years of age! It is a bit tight in the aroma department with some anise. The taste is predominately anise and tart cherries and iron, blood, but this wine all about the rich, velvety, viscous body. This wine is sexy, full bodied, and voluptuous. The taste is long, very long, velvety, and rich, round, balanced. While this is drinking extremely well now with fully resolved tannins I can't help but wonder if it will open up more in the years to come. With all of the fruit it shouldn't be so tight. A rewarding glass, but it may be better to hold this for a few years more. It certainly has many years to go. Serve with cassoulet or lamb.
