Thursday, March 15, 2012 - Nose: Sarsaparilla, smoke, cured meats, crushed gravel, black cherries. Generally dark, rich, and sappy. Palate: Black, tart cherries with moderate tannins on the attack. Mid-palate through the finish is pretty muted. Some sap on the finish but also hints of animale.
Overall, I find this to be quite rich with a tightly wound core, above average acidity, and well below average fruit. This will one day be dark and elegant but I don't see it aspiring to anything greater than a village level wine.
