92 Points

Thursday, August 9, 2012 - First nose: whiff of vanilla and forest berry jam. Soon more complexity: seaweed and nori, garrigue and stems, black pepper and kirsch. The taste is full-bodied with powerful development on the palate, but also shows good freshness and certain amounts of elegance. At this stage, the massive baby-fat fruit has pulled back a bit to expose the respectable stemmy tannin structure and the remarkably long kirsch & black pepper finish. This is a brilliant old-school cuvée tradition that drinks quite well at the moment and seems set to peak in about five years, most likely with a long plateau of maturity (2017-2027).
