Saturday, June 26, 2010 - It is funny how circumstances can alter one's appreciation of a wine. Last week I had this wine straight after tasting pierre chermette's 09 Beauj. cuvée traditionnelle and I (and the other tasters) could hardly believe this was gamay: it resembled an excellent village wine from a good vintage. This week I retried this wine one a stand alone basis (with and without food) and the varietal shows a lot more! Yes, still a pinot noir like flavour-profile, with plenty of minerality; but also the sappy gamay fruit. This is seriously delicious gamay that reminds tasters that the concept of terroir can really define a wine. will probably last for at least 3 years.
