Saturday, November 21, 2020 - Oh yeah this is in a good spot right now. Had to decant because the cork exploded into a million pieces but even right away it was dark and mysterious with lots of austere Bordeaux notes. As it opens up over a couple of hours there is more ripeness but it’s pretty clean; not much barnyard, a hint of VA on the nose with candied cherries, a certain smokiness, and a leafy forest note. The palate is a bit more bretty and volatile than the nose but I would say it’s complex rather than overpowering and it’s very well balanced with the worn leather, gravel, strawberry, cranberry and ripe cherry acidity. Great with a Southwest-inspired beef stew. Seems like it could last a while but if I had any more bottles I would have a hard time not drinking them now ; )
