Wednesday, January 6, 2016 - Simple, flat, and extremely dry. Very little depth of flavor to speak of. Some muted blackberry, black licorice, and loam; a very strong cedar element engulfed the rest of the wine and, with some air, became even more dominant.
With a rough year for BDX and a cheap wine at that, this is what one might expect. It stands to mellow out with possibly a year or so more in bottle, but no time will ultimately coax any layered fruit flavors or pleasing viscosity out of this. The distractingly dry kick on the back end did me in on this wine. A generous 87 points just because it was not completely undrinkable as long as food was around.
