Monday, March 26, 2012 - On opening, there was a quick spash of cedar and tobacco that was predominate. Vanilla and oak then took over on the nose. PnP shows nice dark fruit and tons of mocha notes on a leathery core. Finish is medium long and bordering on delicious. Just waiting for this wine to catch some air. Tannins are present but smooth and polished. Elegant is the first word that comes to mind, but the mid-palate needs to improve on catching some air. This wine seems about a year past its prime.

After an hour, nice fruit on the initial attack, but as it fades a leathery prune like aftertaste kicks in. Quite dry and astringent, its still very smooth, but the finish is a bit off.

Two hours in and the fruit is buried behind a leathery veil that refuses to lift. Sourness is creeping in and its not a good sourness like in sour cherries, its got an ugly edge to it. Have to revise my score down. Have some more bottles of this, but it may be too old.
