93 Points

Sunday, April 10, 2011 - Good juice, but not great and a squeeze at this price point. Dark brick / cranberry color with heady nose of cooked red fruit and cinnamon (think of the aroma of homemade fruit cake), with a prominent herbaceous backbone and something faintly reminiscent of flint or gun smoke. Soft and lush on the palate. Bright, juicy raspberries overly a mid-palate of basil and perhaps black licorice. Fresh, tight acidity and, at 15.6 percent, beautifully integrated heat (as in, I hardly taste it). With rounded, almost grainy tannins, this wine is structurally very Burgundian (save the alcohol), though still as ripe and rich as you'd expect from a California pinot. Without a doubt: wonderfully crafted and meticulously made.
