Sunday, October 1, 2023 - You've got to keep an eye on the 1959 Gruaud Larose for the nose is slightly uninspiring at its debut, requiring time in the decanter to develop deep, dark black fruits, eucalyptus, and a hint of red pepper. The palate is warm and cedary - unusually, showing a little peat. I like the way this unfolds; even if it doesn't match the 1961, this is still a fine Gruaud Larose exhibiting lots of classic character - deep, dark, serious, broad-shouldered old Gruaud.
