Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - My best experience with an "old" zin. From the get-go, the nose is a complex rich full potpourri of red fruit, strawberry, raspberry, cherry, some well-integrated vanilla oak. The flavor has the same, with a slight raspberry liquer slant, black pepper, and a medium-plus finish. If you like decent zinfandel, this one will impress you with what the grape can achieve. Day 2 to follow.
Day 2, sadly was significantly in decline. That chaulky taste wine gets when it's been sitting out too long, fruit about 50% of what it was yesterday. It still had some good complexity. 89 on day 2, which is still not bad.
