90 Points

Sunday, May 24, 2015 - Earthy meaty beefy - that's the ballpark. That said, elegance and such is not in the historical picture of Pommard. This wine has basically been stored in a refrigerator since acquisition upon release. It will keep just fine, but will likely not improve.

What I find interesting about this wine, and I bought and still have plenty of 1990's, is how it fits into my emerging view of the 1990's. They are all over the map - some fully ready, some still quite tannic and hold your breath. My thought is that while rainfall amounts per village/vineyard are always diverse across Burgundy, maybe back then in 1990, and something we didn't appreciate if its true, and I think it is, is that rainfall in Burgundy in 1990 was historically feast or famine from village/vineyard to village/vineyard. I find 1990 red burgundies a crap shoot in terms of drinkability, and my thinking is that this is the reason why.
