Thursday, November 25, 2021 - Nickolls and Perks 30th Anniversary tasting of Symington's Vintage Ports (Zoom): There are much more definite hints of youth in the appearance than the Warre's 1991: much redder.
This feels much less sweet on the nose (compared to the preceding 1991 Vesuvio, Cockburn's and Warre's), and much more winey. There are loads of elegant red and black fruit, honeysuckle, almonds and an herbes de Provence lift.
Nice and elegant on the palate. Until you get to the finish, in the mouth this almost feels more like a rich red wine, and is a bit amarone-like. Very elegant, and much less sweet than the first three. There's a touch of the woodiness that you get from a licorice stick (rather than the woodiness of oak).
This is really lovely to drink, but it's hard to shake the feeling that drinking it now is maybe not infanticide, but definitely filicide.
