Saturday, January 31, 2009 - Tart raspberry or cranberry with a bitter edge. A touch of vanilla, but no cedar or blackberry or other black fruits. Intense flavors almost hide light sandpaper tannins. I had a hard time figuring this wine out, as it did not resemble a plush, ripe US cab, nor an elegant BDX. The intense flavors, red fruits and acid are really different from Cabs I have known. I did like this wine a lot, and the tartness was bracing and interesting. But, my preference is for the blackberry-cedar-leather style. I think you could age this wine for five more years and find a little softness and velvety rather than prickly tannins.
