Saturday, February 12, 2011 - The quality shows right off the bat, with gorgeous ruby-purple colr int the glass, bright red currant fruit, delicate herbs, berries, and a little coffee on the nose. Shows very little oak. Nicely textured palate of black currant and red berries, with a firm structure and good finish.
This comes off more as right bank Bordeaux than Chile, because it lacks the signature loamy earth notes I love in Chilean wines. That's not unusual, the Clos Apalta is usually the most refined, international style of the country's top wines. But '05 had that earthy Chilean terrior in in spades, which made it great, in my opinion.
