Thursday, August 22, 2019 - Tasted at Penfolds Magill Estate, Adelaide. 40 Vintages of Grange: A recorked bottle of Bin 4 made with 100% Shiraz. First wine of the morning, just out of the cellar, a bit like a cold coffee to start the day. No hint of oxidation whatsoever, the enormous structure is apparent from the word 'go'. Very bright in the glass and the freshness that comes with wines of that appearance is apparent. Plenty of acid, suggesting this wine still has many years in front of it. Coming back to the glass later in the day, the wine has not degraded at all but has taken on a lovely caramel nose reminiscent of Penfolds Grandfather Port.
