2002 Dominus Estate

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

Saturday, November 14, 2020 - Very dark center, garnet rim.
On the nose black- and blueberries, some pepper and some cedar. Still quite a bit of fruit left on the bouquet..
On the palate still quite closed and tannic, bitter impression; a bit on the lean side.
This wine did not come across in a favorable light tonight. I think they overdid the tannins which need at least another 5 years to soften down and more fully integrate. I am not persuaded that the latter will ever happen as the wine, at this age , is not balanced.
Disappointing..
Reading the tasting notes of others, I wonder if my wine was off... Will never know as this was my only bottle.
On day 2: from a half bottle, decanted off the previous night: On the nose the fruit has come more to the foreground and the smell more expressive.
The palate side has also improved: Tannins more subdued and better interwoven with the wine. A different kettle of fish now. Still a bit tannic but I have a more more favorable impression of the wine.
