Saturday, January 29, 2011 - The color is a deep redish hue with a brown tint. On the nose I get an initial buttery,spicy,oaky,vinegar scent, but under all of that is a boat load of ripe red fruit. Cherry and strawberry jam with a little ashy licorice on the back end. On the palate there is an initial attack of oak and vinegar. On the mid palate the fruit starts coming out and finishes with a freshly lit match flavor. This wine is very confusing and not my favorite. The finish is long with more tasty red fruit but it's a little too late. It was cheap so Im not totally disappointed but for a barbera I expected a lot more.
