Wednesday, October 15, 2014 - Old Nebbiolo is an amazing thing. Here's a wine from a very good producer, but not one of the stars of Piedmont. This is a base barolo from an okay vintage. Yet the wine is showing beautifully. Almost no bricking. Well-balanced and well-structured, with classic Nebbiolo aromas on the nose - a bit muted - nice mouthfeel, sweet crushed berry fruit, a bit of spice and soy, leather, nice finish. A very pleasant surprise.
