Friday, December 16, 2016 - This wine reminded me what a great aging grape Cabernet Sauvignon really is. In pedigree, nothing special coming out of the cellar 9 years after its bottling. Reputable, historic producer, but a high production wine, not the reserve bottling. But there it was in the glass, reminding me of a nicely aged Margaux. Simply gorgeous, prominent aromas reminiscent of leather, rosemary and nutmeg. A lovely, approachable, savory palate ... beautifully balanced across the vectors of sweetness, bitterness, and spiciness. Not a steak wine, but great with medium-body table fare, like pork, duck or the wild rice and roast chicken soup we had. Given the nose profile, lamb would probably work well too.

Age your reds well, and this is your reward!
