78 Points

Friday, January 8, 2010 - On January 7, 2010, this wine was pleasant and easy-drinking, if not particularly remarkable. The wine was clear, though not sparkling (1.5), and a deep color for a Pinot (2). The bouquet was somewhat simple, but fruity - I noted raspberry and cherry notes - and very slightly yeasty (2.5). The acidity was nice for casual drinking, but perhaps slightly low (1.5). It was perhaps slightly sweet for a good Pinot (.5). The body was very nice and it pleasantly coated the mouth (2). The flavors of raspberry and canning cherry were predominant and appropriate to the variety, but somewhat subdued (1.5). There was no perceptible bitterness (1). Tannins were smooth and soft, but somewhat low (.5). Overall, I found this to be an acceptable Pinot Noir, but nothing special (2). I score it a total 0f 15 points on the UC Davis scale. Call it 78 on the Robert Parker scale. This is a substantially higher score than I gave it last spring when comparing it to the Kent Rasmussen Carneros Estate Pinot Noir, but I think the present score is fair. Either the wine has improved or I have changed my opinion...
