Monday, August 22, 2016 - Cantina Bartolo Mascarello Vertical (Hearth Restaurant, NYC): [Double-decanted at about noon.] Smoky black fruit nose. Tart, tannic, backward, but with those characteristic sweet black cherries. Very long and delicious. The vintage gives the kind of structure that yields a great wine in the hands of the Mascarello family and their vineyards. This was the vintage after Bartolo passed away. It will be a great homage for at least 30 more years to the legacy he left behind in his daughter, Maria-Teresa. 95-?
