Friday, December 15, 2017 - HDH auction tasting at Spiaggia; 12/14/2017-12/16/2017 (Chicago, IL): A very dark and correct rendition of the vintage, this has a really deep and dark profile. The nose has lots of earth and doesn't show the bright fruit profile of the 2011; this is a much more brooding Barolo. The palate, too, is much darker in profile and more closed. There seems to be a lot of coiled power here; while the 2011 is more delicious and approachable now, I think this will end up being the better wine.
