Wednesday, December 7, 2011 - Decanted about 30 minutes. Deep, dark purple color. Blackberries, smoked meat, black pepper, leather, and some earthiness and fresh flowers on the very open and inviting nose. Fairly full bodied with slightly softened, ripe tannins and nice acidity. Rich and spicy on the palate with a nice black pepper element lingering in the not too distant background. Losing some of the upfront fruit you usually find in a Carlisle, but the spice and pepper fills in nicely. Nice length on the finish. Probably at peak now, but this should hold for a couple more years. Very nice!
