1998 Château Pavie Macquin

93 Points

Sunday, January 5, 2014 - This bottle seems younger than the last bottles tasted. Dark ruby core, not lightening at the rim. Bouquet is milder, yet notes of floral, red fruits, coffee and green pepper are not hard to find. Palate has maintained the plushness and balance, delicious red cherry, earth, coffee and leather. Tannins are quite noticeable, but very fine and gives the wine a good lift. Medium finish with dried berries, cigar and a tiny bit of green note. This '98 still has some time to go, and will develop nicely over the 5+ years.
