Friday, October 19, 2007 - Practically opaque, this has a lush nose of blackberry jam, licorice and spices, with a little heat. On the palate it has a zingy acidity with sour cherry flavors and a dry tart finish with hints of marzipan. Reminds me of some of the leaner California zins; I'm not sure if I would have guessed this blind as Syrah. Still young, and maybe in need of settling down, but somehow seems a bit disjointed, with the spiky acids and tannins not quite in balance yet. A lot of berry components, but a hefty price tag for all that. In fairness, it does get more rounded with being open for a while, and was more enjoyable over time.
