Friday, July 4, 2014 - Bricking orange brown on the rim, with a deep but clear magenta center. Delightful nose of vanilla, sweet leather and cherry plum and the faintest hint of dill. Bright acidic fruit up front which fades faster than I would like. Middle offers deeper notes of leather, wool, wood and a little earth. Overall, there is an acidic brightness that starts to edge towards pickling spiciness, though the wine has not turned in any way. Tannins are very light. too light really, but such is what happens with this quantity of aging on a humble reserva. Finish lingers for a long, long, looooong time but us very subdued and quite pleasant. This has been a really fantastic wine to savor and deconstruct. Reinforces in my mind why I love Riojas so much. Thinking about what a $20 bottle from Calif would taste like after 15 years... no contest!
