Wednesday, August 31, 2016 - Drunk over two days. Very closed initially on the nose. With a great deal of oxygenation, this opens up with sour cherry, garrigue, cola, stewed plum, and red earth notes. Solid, full-bodied, and austere on the palate, with plentiful marasca cherry, fresh herbs, and a hint of menthol. There isn't a trace of over-extraction. The fruit is disciplined and harmoniously integrated with the broader structure. Well-resolved, but still firm tannins, and an excellent acidity that makes this wine an ideal partner for Tuscan cusine: a ribollita with plenty of olive oil and then wild boar. Good persistence, with a pleasing minerality on the finish. This bottle is something of an enigma. Although on paper it should be mature, it will almost certainly benefit from another decade in the cellar. This is a serious, grown-up wine that will reward the patient drinker.

As for the comments of some other reviewers here - I'm frankly fed up with Parkertards critiquing Old World wines for an absence of fruit-froward, vanilla infused notes. If you want alcoholic Kool-Aid then buy California Cabs and Australian Shiraz - just don't pretend you know what you're talking about with Brunello.
