Thursday, January 12, 2023 - Popped and poured. As soon as the cork cleared the bottle the release of the perfume filled the immediate area. Cherry, brown sugar, mocha and chocolate abounded. The palate tracked the bouquet with precision. The finish goes on forever. On the back label, Eric Baugher’s notes reference “exotic spice” from the 20% American new oak, but I do not detect that at this point. But the wine is absolutely exquisite! Balanced, sensual, and enticing. Every sip leads the nose back to the glass for more data … and another sip. The bottle disappeared so quickly that I had to open another one (which was finished a day later without any diminution in flavor or enjoyment qualities). So far, this is one of the two best wines I’ve had this year and is likely to remain in the top 5 by 123123. 72% Zinfandel, 20% Carignane, 6% Petite Sirah, 2% Mourvedre. Throwing heavy sediment. 14.8% alc., but without a trace of heat. With country ham and coq au vin. 01.12&13.23. Highly Recommended.
