Community Tasting Note

Friday, December 10, 2010 - A little surprising for a Zinfandel based on what I would normally expect. Starting with the color; I expected a rich impenetrable deep red violet color and instead, the color resembles a Pinot Noir with it's light red transparency. On the nose there isn't even a hint of VA as noted by the prior CT tasting note. Instead, there's some nice red and purple berry scents mixed with a touch of spice but the alcohol also tickles the nostrils a bit. (15.8% abv). This does start out a little thin on the palate but with some aeration, it starts to gain weight but never quite reached the depth or richness I was hoping for. Finishes with some oak nuances and a touch of heat on the back end but not as much as I would have expected given the alcohol level of the wine itself. Overall, it was different then expected but still pretty good if you give it a little air.
