1999 Marc Sorrel Hermitage Le Gréal

Community Tasting Note

95 Points

Sunday, August 13, 2023 - Hugely smoky nose of bacon fat and woodsmoke. Brambly and blackberry fruit - insanely rich and intense but, paradoxically, light and dancing. How can you be big and light at the same time? Like a great dancer? Like Nureyev or Baryshnikov. Light but strong; leaping and lithe but deeply structured and firm. Sensational and such a privilege.

8/29/2023 10:37:00 AM - Great note, and your impressions of this 1999 are similar to mine of a recent 2011 - "How is this so rich and elegant at the same time? There is not a hair out of place." These wines are phenomenal and somehow one can occasionally find older vintages for less than the cost of the current release.
