Monday, March 9, 2015 - From a 375, medium colored bottle. Golden-orange color, appropriate for its age; medium-intensity nose with lots of baking spice, some saffron, some citrus/grapefruit, minerality; palate is full bodied and rich while also being bright and fresh, initially a bit of copper, minerality, rich sweetness which is quickly balanced by fabulous acidity that tingles the tongue, classic Fargues grapefruit on the palate, persists through the midpalate with its fruit; finish is medium-long, balanced, and enjoyable. This seems to be making a transition to early middle-age and picking up some of the copper and minerality notes. I love the freshness that the acidity gives this wine and the character that the grapefruit on the palate adds (which I find in most Fargues wines). 95-96+, and I look forward to seeing how this improves over the next week in the bottle. (My many previous bottles have all shows significant improvement over days to a week.)
Day 3: Nose is similar to when it was first opened; palate is also fairly similar to the first day, maybe a tad more viscous, more orange marmalade along with the tart grapefruit, but still with fabulous acidity and maybe a bit of new caramel, notable for its excellent integration today, which is likely better than when first opened. Just a superb wine (though I can see why people who don't necessarily like the tart grapefruit and like more sweetness may not like the house style). 97+
