Saturday, January 27, 2024 - Chateau Figeac 2009. 96+ (B2,L2,I2,C2). A blend of 35% CS, 35% CF and 30% Merlot, aged 18 months in new French oak. Excellent cork condition. No fault. Deep garnet with a glint. Decanted for 3 hours and enjoyed over 3 hours. Wine was still climbing at the end. Medium plus aroma. Dark (blackberry, black currant) and red fruits (raspberry, strawberry). Violet and rose flowers. Bell Pepper, chalk and wet stones. Black pepper, vanilla, cedar, mint and tobacco. Butter, caramel and rich. Very balanced and has a great length. Very fine and silky tannins. Good intensity and is extremely complex, evolving and improving over time in the glass. Aromas and flavours kept changing over time. Sweet and ripe. Interesting experience. Excellent to drink today but this wine should continue to improve in the bottle for many years. Paired with manchego, mimolette and beaufort d'alpage cheese and crackers. Kawamura Bafun Narabi Uni, ikura, tobiko, prawn and scallop pasta in rich and freshly made uni sauce.
